You have several options for contacting your legislator to express opinions and/or recommendations for legislative action. In order for our RPEA chapter to remain aware of member’s concerns, we ask that you let us know of your contacts with legislators on issues related to your public employment retirement and benefits. By web site
On your legislator’s web page, there will be a contact link button for a quick send to their office. Once the button is accessed, a template comes up allowing you to identify yourself, categorize your issue and provide a narrative of your opinion and/or position. These types of messages are time effective and accessed by staff frequently.
By email
You can send a direct email using the legislator’s email address. These emails are accessed by staff regularly and acknowledged electronically.
By telephone
You can call the legislator’s office and speak to staff. These contacts are noted and tallied.
By written letter

(Paragraph 1) Identify yourself and state your reason for writing. Tell your personal story.
(Paragraph 2) Acknowledge the value of the legislature’s interest in retirement and health issues. State your reasons for believing that (number of the bill is a (good/bad) idea for public employees in California and why.
(Paragraph 3) Ask your (Senator/Assembly Member) to (support/oppose # (number of the bill).
(Paragraph 4) Thank them for listening to your concerns. Always maintain a respectful tone.
